"Blue Jays choked big"; "Rigged game" - Fans divided as Addison Barger’s brutal baserunning gaffe seals Dodgers’ win with game-ending double play

Toronto Blue Jays slugger Addison Barger made a base-running mistake in the ninth inning of Friday's World Series Game 6 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Blue Jays were just an RBI hit away from tying the ball game before the error on the basepaths basically resulted in a double play and forced Game 7.

Down 3-1 entering the ninth inning, the Blue Jays did well to drive Roki Sasaki out of the game after Barger hit a ground-rule double to push both runners into scoring positions. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts then called Tyler Glasnow from the bullpen to record three outs. He retired Ernie Clement and then induced a flyout off Andres Gimenez.

In the same play, Barger made too much headway in his baserunning, and Kike Hernandez, who caught the ball in left field, made a heads-up play to catch Barger short of his ground to second base. The double play sealed the game for the Dodgers and it might have cost the Blue Jays their first World Series since 1993.

Fans had a field day, mocking Barger for his error.

"Blue Jays Choked big wow they cost themselves a world series," one fan wrote. "Rigged game," another wrote. "Even if the ball drops, the runner isn't scoring from second so there's no need to be doubled off right there esp with Springer on deck," one fan commented. "Heads-up play by Kike, but BIG mental error by Barger - gotta stay closer to the bag on a fly ball!!!" one fan noted. "Barger has millions on the dodgers winning in 7.. investigate him," one fan added.

Blue Jays and Dodgers take World Series to Game 7

The World Series Game 7 is happening in Toronto. The Dodgers erupted for a three-run rally in the third inning, and it was enough of an offense to support stellar pitching throughout the game.

Mookie Betts' two-run RBI hit was a game-changer, and so was Will Smith's RBI double that set those runners in scoring positions.

Game 7 will take place on Saturday at Rogers Center.
