The Toronto Blue Jays are in an interesting spot.
They are 35-30 and in possession of the third American League Wild Card spot. They're also 4 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East.
However, that hasn't stopped speculation over who might end up being traded away. They managed to extend Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but not Bo Bichette.
In all likelihood, Bichette won't be back in 2026. Manny Randhawa of MLB.com lists Bichette as Toronto's best trade chip with the deadline approaching.
"Will the Jays be buyers? Sellers? Both? Neither? It’s tough to say. Bichette, in the final year of his contract, is coming off a difficult, injury-marred 2024 campaign. He has bounced back, hitting .270/.316/.427 with eight homers this season, but there haven’t been any recent updates regarding a potential contract extension. A former All-Star who led the AL in hits in 2021 and 2022 could bring a nice haul as Toronto pursues a postseason return," Randhawa wrote.

Bichette is putting together a strong season for the Blue Jays, who have surged back into contention following a bad start to the 2025 season.
They chose to contend this year rather than rebuild, and so far, that is looking like the right decision. But even if they remain in the mix, it would be wise for them to consider trades for Bichette.
Bichette could bring back a solid haul of prospects that could be close to Major League ready and could help the Blue Jays in the near future.
And if Toronto also adds a piece or two, they could still remain competitive despite trading away their star shortstop.
It will be interesting to see what Toronto decides to do this summer.
