Want to slow down aging? Might be time to get a grip — literally.

At least, that’s the thinking among biohackers like Bryan Johnson, who has claimed that grip strength may be a better indicator of overall health and aging than muscle size alone.

“Grip strength predicts longevity better than being jacked,” Johnson wrote in an old post on X. “Muscle size matters, but strength matters more.”

Of course, grip strength alone isn’t a crystal ball for how you’ll age, but research does suggest it’s a solid indicator of overall health. One systematic review linked grip strength to several outcomes, including bone density, nutrition, hospitalization, and mortality.

And while grip strength may be one of the less-talked-about aspects of fitness, it’s also relatively easy to train with the right tools. One popular grip-strengthening kit on Amazon is currently marked down 62% to just $10 ahead of October Prime Day, which kicks off Oct. 6 and 7 — though many more deals are already live.

Reviewers say the kit is quite simple to use, and many claim they’ve noticed a significant difference in their grip strength after using it consistently.

FitBeast’s best-selling Grip Strengthener features a textured, contoured handle designed to provide a comfortable, secure grip. Users can pick between multiple resistance levels to adjust the difficulty as they build strength.

“This is a fantastic way to strengthen your grip,” one reviewer shared. “I use this about two times a week on my non-lifting days, and after a week of use, I could feel the difference. My hands wouldn’t give out or be in pain when doing deadlifts or any pull exercises.”

Besides the handle, the kit also includes a stress-relief grip ball, finger exerciser and other accessories designed to support flexibility and mobility — targeting different muscle groups within the hand and wrist.

The entire set is available in four colors, and thanks to its compact design, it’s easy to bring anywhere.
