Bills still a Super Bowl question mark after free agency signings

1 hour ago 3

The Buffalo Bills knew that free agency was going to define their offseason.

With needs on both sides of the ball, the franchise had to be proactive...and they were.

DJ Moore was signed to answer the receiver question, Bradley Chubb was signed to give the defense more juice, and in the secondary, C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Dee Alford were signed.

But is that enough for the Bills to get over the playoff hump?

CBS Sports' Garrett Podell has given Buffalo a B grade for its dealings thus far.

"The acquisition of both Moore and Chubb were definitely overpays," Podell wrote. "However, Buffalo had to do something big at the receiver position after they had an NFL-high eight wide receivers play at least 100 snaps in 2025, the most in the NFL.

"Chubb did register 8.5 sacks in 2025 for a disappointing Miami Dolphins outfit, but that sacks total would have led the Bills in sacks in each of the last two seasons. The secondary acquisitions for Alford and Gardner-Johnson on the cheap were good business."

Are Bills contenders after free agency?

The franchise has made some key signings, but also lost some key players, so as of right now, it is a little difficult to say.

Losing David Edwards and Taron Johnson wasn't ideal, but the signings of Moore and Chubb, if they both work out, could be seen as good upgrades.

It will start and stop with Josh Allen, though. We know that.

Getting Moore is good business, and it lightens the load on Khalil Shakir and others from being "the" guy. Now the ball can be spread around with the downfield threat Moore brings.

Are the Bills contenders? Yes, but the needle hasn't moved much after their free agency dealings.
