Bills star defender injured in preseason opener vs. Giants

The Buffalo Bills have officially begun preseason play, opening at home against the New York Giants. The Giants kicked a field goal on their opening drive, and Buffalo failed to get anything going on the ensuing series.

Results on the scoreboard aren't the focus in these games. Remaining healthy and getting a look at depth pieces in the midst of position battles are what matter most. Buffalo was given a small scare on their second defensive drive.

Nickel cornerback Taron Johnson made a tackle in the flat that resulted in him leaving the game. It appeared to be an upper-body injury, but was cleared of a concussion. Johnson was injured in Week 1 last year against the Arizona Cardinals and missed multiple weeks, and Buffalo is hoping to avoid a similar problem.
