The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for a fresh season, and this one will see the team behind new head coach Joe Brady. The Bills also have a bevy of young rookies ready to take the field, but one of those rookies is already being punished by the NFL.
Well, this player didn't waste any time getting in a bit of trouble with the league. But, he should be fine, and he's just learning early on that the NFL has strict rules, and they punish those who break them.
Every week, the NFL hands out punishments to players who break certain rules during the games. The league says these punishments are "intended to protect the players from unnecessary risk, promote player safety and emphasize sportsmanship and respect of teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and fans."
Bills rookie Jalon Kilgore learns the NFL's rules the hard way
Bills rookie safety Jalon Kilgore was handed a punishment from the NFL over the weekend along with four other NFL players. He was fined $5,560, which is nothing to wrinkle at, but it could have been higher, because these punishments get very expensive. The fines go to a good cause in the Professional Athletes Foundation.
The incident happened in the second quarter of the Bills' preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. With just under 30 seconds left on the clock in the half, Kilgore committed an Unnecessary Roughness infraction for an illegal use of the helmet. So, he's learning the hard way not to do that again.
The Bills selected Kilgore in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft with the 167th overall pick.
