The Washington Commanders are in a tough spot as teams like the Bengals with Trey Hendrickson and the Cowboys with Micah Parsons make moves around the league. Terry McLaurin wants a solid contract extension, but the Commanders haven’t been in a hurry to finalize it. Since June, this issue has frustrated McLaurin, leaving him quite displeased.
“All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin has made it clear to the team that he’s frustrated with the lack of progress on a long-term deal. As I previously reported, McLaurin unexpectedly left voluntary workouts after initially attending, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll report for mandatory minicamp,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote.
McLaurin is a talented wide receiver, but like many players, he wants a new and improved contract. He initially did not attend training camp but eventually showed up to avoid steep fines.
“McLaurin became a hold-in and was placed on the physically unable to perform list with an apparent ankle injury suffered last season, though he participated in spring workouts. By reporting, McLaurin could no longer be fined $50,000 per day,” ESPN’s John Keim wrote.
McLaurin has requested a trade and has been part of contract discussions. The Athletic suggests he could very well be traded to the Buffalo Bills, providing Josh Allen with a solid receiving option.
“The Bills could certainly use a legitimate No. 1 receiver, but as of right now, only if the right situation arises. McLaurin is a perfect fit for Josh Allen, though McLaurin’s need for a new deal with a cap-strapped team casts some doubt on the pairing. If the Bills could move Samuel’s $6.9 million in guaranteed base salary, along with a Day 3 pick for someone like McLaurin, I could see them talking themselves into it. Samuel, at least, could give the Commanders a player they could start in the interim,” The Athletic wrote.

This potential deal could be beneficial in the long run. Allen has been close to reaching the Super Bowl, and McLaurin might be the difference-maker. A move to the Bills paints a bright picture for their upcoming season.
