After the Buffalo Bills' Week 6 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, the NFL handed out suspensions to two Bills defensive backs for spitting during the game.
Sam Franklin was one, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson was the other. Both players were suspended by the NFL for one game, though both players have appealed.
However, as NFL Senior Vice President of Football and International Communications Michael Signora shared, the suspension of Johnson has been upheld by the NFL, and he'll miss Buffalo's next game.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson has suspension upheld by NFL
"Hearing officer Jordy Nelson, jointly appointed by the NFL and the NFLPA, has upheld the one-game suspension of C.J. Gardner-Johnson," Signora shared.
This news shouldn't come as a huge surprise, and Gardner-Johnson's spitting incident went viral and drew enough eyes that a suspension holding up seemed likely.
Now, he's going to miss the team's next game, which comes after the Bills' Week 7 bye week when they face off against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8.
With Franklin also potentially suspended, though he's appealing and could have his suspension revoked, the Bills are down a key defensive back in a secondary that was already questionable this season.

This news from the NFL and Jordy Nelson isn't what the Bills or Gardner-Johnson wanted to hear. He'll now miss Week 8 against the Ravens, leaving a depleted secondary down a key player to potentially face Lamar Jackson and Zay Flowers.
Buffalo does have time to figure out a replacement plan for Gardner-Johnson with this suspension coming before the team's Week 7 bye.
Whether it's bringing up Tre'Davious White from the practice squad or signing someone else to the 53-man roster, the Bills could really use another defensive back next weekend against a tricky Ravens offense now that Gardner-Johnson is officially suspended.
