Goldberg is one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time. Earlier this year, the legend ended his professional wrestling career after competing in his final bout against Gunther.
Best wishes are in order for the Da Man. The Hall of Famer turned 59 years old on December 27 and is celebrating his birthday with his family after his retirement from pro wrestling.
Goldberg faced Gunther with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line at Saturday Night’s Main Event in July. While the bout was a back-and-forth affair, it ended in The Ring General's favor as he made the Da Man pass out with his signature sleeper chokehold, beating the Hall of Famer in his final match in the Stamford-based promotion.
Gunther defeated another WWE legend after Goldberg
The Ring General has had one of the best professional wrestling runs in the industry, given that he held the World Heavyweight Title for a long time and defeated Goldberg in his retirement match.
Then, The Ring General went on a hiatus after losing his strap at SummerSlam 2025 Premium Live Event to CM Punk. The Austrian star then returned on Monday Night RAW and participated in the "Last Time is Now" Tournament and defeated everyone in his path to win the tourney and the opportunity to retire Cena at Saturday Night's Main Event XLII.
Fans possibly expected The Ring General to lose to The Cenation Leader at SNME, but in a huge surprise, Gunther made "Mr. Never Give Up" tap out with his signature sleeper chokehold, the same move that he used to beat Goldberg earlier in July.
That said, the former World Heavyweight Champion has established himself at the top of the mountain, and it will be interesting to see what plans Triple H and his WWE creative team may have in store for The Ring General moving forward.
