Best start to MLB season: Where Dodgers' winning streak ranks on all-time list

23 hours ago 1

The Dodgers' hot start continued on Wednesday night, as Los Angeles beat the Braves on a Shohei Ohtani walk-off home run.

Through three series, Los Angeles now have three sweeps over two playoff teams and a third team that had a winning record last year. Los Angeles is an MLB-best 8-0 and one of just two undefeated teams left through one week of play, along with the 7-0 Padres.

Many people expect the Dodgers to be virtually unbeatable this season, and that has at least been the case for the first eight games.

Here's where the Los Angeles winning streak stacks up against the best starts in MLB history.

The Dodgers' winning streak began in March, when they opened the season against the Cubs in Tokyo, Japan. Los Angeles swept the series despite missing Mookie Betts for the series, as the team was 2-0 before 28 other teams even played a game.

On Opening Day, the Dodgers faced reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal and the Tigers, but Blake Snell outdueled Skubal to get the victory. From there, Los Angeles went on to win five more games against playoff teams from last year, as neither the Tigers nor Braces could hand the Dodgers their first loss of the season.

The Dodgers go on their first true road trip, as they will play the Phillies and Nationals over the next week.

Longest winning streak to start MLB season

The most wins to begin an MLB season is 13, which has been done three times. First, the 1982 Braves started 13-0, as Atlanta lost in the NLCS that season. Five years later,  the Brewers started 13-0 in 1987, but Milwaukee failed to make the playoffs that year.

Finally, two years ago, the Rays started 13-0 to match the all-time mark, but lost to the Blue Jays before being able to break it.

Just because a team starts hot doesn't mean that it will end hot. Only one team that won double-digit games to begin the season won the World Series, and three even missed the playoffs.
