NBA odds and expert picks for Christmas Day

We've asked NBA analyst Tony Mejia for his picks on the NBA's Christmas Day card. Here are odds on the games, plus Mejia's game-by-game analysis:

Spurs at Knicks

Jalen Brunson scored 61 points when these teams met last March, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 40-20 game from Victor Wembanyama in a 130-126 Spurs win in OT. While HC Gregg Popovich is recovering from a mild stroke, San Antonio is healthier than it’s been all season. Chris Paul and rookie Stephon Castle are helping run the show for the Spurs, while New York's new pieces who weren’t around last Christmas include Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby. They should be pumped, so ride the OVER despite the early start.

Timberwolves at Mavericks

Luka Doncic (heel) will likely suit up for the season's second showdown between 2024 Western Conference finals participants. He shot just 1-for-8 from 3-point range in Minnesota on Oct. 29, but Kyrie Irving saved the day with 35 points in Dallas' 120-114. Look for Julius Randle, playing his first game in his hometown with the Timberwolves, to top his points + assists + rebounds after finishing with 20/7/7 in the first matchup.

76ers at Celtics

While Joel Embiid has been scoring over 30 points consistently, it’s hard to trust his rhythm, and with former Rookie of the Year frontrunner Jared McCain out indefinitely, the cursed 76ers run into the defending champs for the first time and face Boston at full strength. Don’t expect the Celtics to spread much holiday cheer. Lay the points.

Lakers at Warriors

We’re running out of LeBron James-Steph Curry meetings, so what may be the final Christmas Day matchup between them should be cherished. This is the first Lakers vs. Warriors encounter of the 2024-25 season, but five of the six games in last season’s Western Conference semifinal produced between 223 and 229 points. Betting the UNDER in games involving both has been profitable over the last few weeks, and given that this will have a playoff feel, UNDER is the play.

Nuggets at Suns

These teams met in Denver on Monday and remain plagued by major issues on defense. The Nuggets have won four of five, thanks to Nikola Jokic's brilliance and Jamal Murray rediscovering his stroke. Phoenix opened the week 6-12 since its 8-1 start and fell to Detroit entering this five-game grueling stretch against top West foes. For a final gift, ride Murray’s hot run on the OVER on his scoring prop.
