The Cincinnati Bengals are on the cusp of staying pat for the long haul.
On Thursday, Hamilton County voted 2-0 to approve the framework of a new lease that will keep the Bengals in Cincinnati through at least 2036, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic. There was one abstain in the voting.
The proposal includes a $470 million renovation of Paycor Stadium and five two-year options after the initial lease extension.
The Bengals and the NFL will contribute $120 million with a G-5 loan, Dehner Jr. adds. Hamilton County will pick up the tab for the other $350 million.
"It is a historic moment," Commission president Denis Driehaus said.
Paycor Stadium, previously named Paul Brown Stadium, opened in 2000, replacing Riverfront Stadium as the Bengals' home field.
Earlier this year, the county approved a $64.5 million commitment to renovations for the stadium, and the Bengals agreed to provide another $120 million.
“The Bengals appreciate Hamilton County’s support in passing today’s MOU, which is a step toward preserving Paycor Stadium as a valuable asset for the community and the downtown. The Bengals’ primary objective has been to keep operating successfully in Paycor Stadium,” the team said in an April statement.
That agreement set up the first or four phases of planned upgrades for the Bengals' stadium.
