Bengals' priorities questioned with Trey Hendrickson decision

The Cincinnati Bengals and Trey Hendrickson still haven't reached an agreement.

With Hendrickson in Florida instead of at training camp, it doesn't necessarily seem to be coming soon, either.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio took a crack at breaking down the problem in a new article. His take: The Bengals' priorities don't fall in the right place to get a deal done.

"It’s about dollars. It’s about structure. And Hendrickson would say it’s about time they take care of him," Florio writes. "The question is whether the Bengals will be bothered by not having Hendrickson around. If the Bengals prioritized winning, the answer would be yes. They seem to prioritize money and/or power, which in this context is usually interchangeable."

Hendrickson is under contract to play the 2025 season at $16 million. He has made it very clear he doesn't want to do that.

Just by market value, Hendrickson is probably worth double that.

Reports have indicated that the Bengals don't want to guarantee multiple years of money on Hendrickson's deal, a standard operating procedure in Cincinnati, except when they make exceptions like Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase. Star defensive ends elsewhere in the league have usually gotten three years of guaranteed money.

Hendrickson is coming off back-to-back 17.5-sack seasons and seems to know his worth. Do the Bengals?
