A new controversy has erupted within U.S. conservative media involving commentators Candace Owens and Ben Shapiro regarding alleged remarks related to the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

During an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show on November 7, 2025, Shapiro claimed that Owens had accused Erika Kirk, the late activist’s wife, of involvement in her husband’s death, an allegation that Owens has categorically denied.

On The Megyn Kelly Show, Ben Shapiro commented about Candace Owens:

“I think you and I differ on our angle with regard to, for example, Candace Owens. I think that what Candace Owens is doing right now is evil. It is evil what she is doing right now, OK? And I say that, again.”

He continued, prompting Kelly to add in on the instance:

“If this were on the left and somebody were accusing Charlie Kirk of his wife having murdered him, I assume that you would be talking about it.”

Megyn Kelly has now addressed the recent controversy surrounding comments made by Ben Shapiro. Kelly clarified during a recent viewer Q&A segment that Candace Owens had not made such a statement and that her previous remarks were being misrepresented.

The clarification followed days of speculation online after Shapiro’s televised remarks sparked backlash within conservative circles. Candace Owens reposted the clip of Kelly’s clarification on X on November 11, 2025, and issued a public statement thanking the host for addressing the matter directly. In her post, Owens wrote:

“Thank you, Megyn Kelly for clarifying that Ben Shapiro quite literally lied to your face and to your audience about my words. Rarely in politics do you see someone lie so brazenly in an effort to morally blackmail someone into their position. Trying to equate questioning Turning Point USA employees about their verifiable lies to accusing Erika Kirk of murdering her own husband is a vile and obvious attempt to shut down further investigation. And it will not work.”

Candace Owens denies claims, while Erika Kirk addresses speculation on Charlie Kirk’s death

As reported by the Hindustan Times, Owens has consistently denied ever accusing Erika Kirk of involvement in the September 2025 killing of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA).

In a tweet shared on November 7, 2025, Owens responded to Shapiro’s comments through a post on X, mentioning that the claim was false and that Shapiro had “lied through his teeth.” She further added that the accusation was “made up out of thin air,” insisting she had never suggested any connection between Erika Kirk and the fatal shooting.

Ben Shapiro took the stage last night with @megynkelly and lied through his teeth. He said that I accused Erika Kirk of murdering Charlie Kirk This quite literally is made up out of thin air. Looking forward to responding to him on my show later today.

Erika Kirk, who is now chief executive of TPUSA following the death of her husband, Charlie Kirk, addressed the widespread online speculation surrounding his killing during an interview with Jesse Watters of Fox News.

During the interview on November 8, 2025, she noted the use of artificial intelligence-generated images and other digital content tied to the case. She appealed for moderation in how the public engages with such material.

She said:

“Please pray and consider and think about whatever you put online, because it’ll impact their kids in the future.”

She also added that she and her family “have to relive” the event and remarked that “some grace would be nice.” In her public comments, Erika Kirk said she was not endorsing any of the conspiracy theories she has seen circulating in the aftermath of her husband’s death.
