Bears urged to sign 69-sack pass rusher who can help immediately

The Chicago Bears have one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, Montez Sweat, who was traded to the team in the middle of the 2023 season.

In 25 games with the Bears, Sweat has recorded 11.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for losses.

The only issue is that Sweat needs another pass rusher to go alongside him, and Aaron Leming from Windy City Gridiron thinks the team should sign free agent Za’Darius Smith.

"Za’Darius Smith might be the 'cream of the crop' of this group, which could also mean he is likely to be the most expensive," Leming wrote. "The 32-year-old continues to produce as a pass rusher, despite getting up there in age. Here’s a fun fact: The only NFC North team he hasn’t played for is Chicago."

Smith has been in the NFL for ten years and has recorded 69 sacks in 140 games.

Smith could come into Chicago on Day 1 and help the defense out right away. The Bears' main goal this season is to make the playoffs, and adding a veteran who has played in meaningful postseason games would help a lot.
