Bears' Rome Odunze reveals worrying update on injured foot: 'This is my new normal'

1 hour ago 3

The Chicago Bears have seen some significant changes to the offense since the ned of the 2025 season, with Drew Dalman's retirement and DJ Moore being traded to the Buffalo Bills.

While they found a new starting center, the Bears are now going to be relying on Rome Odunze and Luther Burden a lot at wide receiver during the 2026 season.

However, Dan Wiederer of The Athletic shared a worrying comment from Odunze on his foot injury from last season that seems to indicate that the problem hasn't actually gone away.

Rome Odunze reveals concerning foot injury update

"This is my new normal," Odunze said. "And it's not from a standpoint that I'm always in pain, but the way my foot broke, there's callouses in there that create a different type of foot structure with those bones - different types of things that kind of shift things around. So my new normal is kind of what I am going into."

This commentary from Odunze on his foot injury from last season is not ideal at all. He's not feeling normal like he did before the foot injury, and it's not his "new normal."

Hearing that from a player coming off an injury is far from ideal. Last season, he played in 12 games for the Bears, missing five games due to a foot issue.

Odunze returned for the playoffs, catching four of 12 targets for 88 yards and no touchdowns. His situation is a little bit more concerning than most other injuries.

This comment indicates that his foot injury from last season hasn't gone away, and instead has forced him to deal with a persisting issue moving forward.

While it's not like Odunze is still hurt or constantly in pain, that doesn't change the fact that this is far from what Bears fans want to hear on their top-10 drafted receiver from a few years ago.

Hopefully, by the start of the 2026 season, Odunze will not feel like his foot is an issue. But his comments during OTAs are a bit worrying, and something to monitor as the season nears.
