Bears named as trade suitor for 71-sack edge rusher they have no chance to acquire

The Chicago Bears scored 59 points against the Carolina Panthers in Week 1. But the issue for the Bears was that their defense gave up 37 points to the Carolina Panthers.

For as good as the offense was, the defense was exceptionally terrible. Improving that defense is paramount to the Bears finding playoff success this year. More likely than not, the upgrades needed will come in the form of a trade or two.

With the edge rusher position being a need still, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox named the Bears as a trade suitor for 71-sack edge rusher Maxx Crosby. Unfortunately, there's no chance of Crosby being traded this season.

"Expect teams that need pass-rushing help to make more offers to acquire Crosby before the trade deadline passes," Knox writes. "Potential suitors: Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys."

Both the Bears and Cowboys were linked to Crosby over the NFL offseason. But when he was reportedly traded to the Baltimore Ravens for two first-round picks, he came off the board.

When Baltimore backed out of the deal, Crosby was back in play. But that moment of being traded away from the Las Vegas Raiders made Crosby want to stick in Las Vegas more than ever before.

All signs are pointing towards the Raiders keeping Crosby through the trade deadline, and the star edge rusher being a part of the team's long-term plans.

Crosby has 71 sacks in his NFL career, already recording 1.5 during the 2026 season in just one game. As much as the Bears might make sense as a landing spot for Crosby, the chances of a trade are essentially zero at this point.

So, while Knox linked the Bears to Crosby as potential trade suitors, Bears fans are going to have to seek out other possible edge rusher and defensive upgrades to trade for. Crosby is not likely to go anywhere, giving the Bears no chance of getting him this year.
