The Chicago Bears improved to 3-2 on the season Monday night, winning on a walk-off Jake Moody field goal over the Washington Commanders.
The victory was extra-sweet for the Bears, who were able to avenge their infamous Hail Mary loss last season in Washington.
But Chicago didn't just win on Monday night; they made NFL history that hadn't previously been seen in almost 100 years.
Bears win back-to-back games with the same final score
CBS Sports' John Breech detailed the Bears' back-to-back 25-24 victories.
"With those two wins, the Bears became the first team in 99 years to win two straight one-point games by the exact same final score, according to ESPN Insight. The last team to pull off that feat came in 1926 when the Frankford Yellow Jackets won two straight games by a score of 7-6. The twist here is that Frankford's second win actually came against the Bears," wrote Breech.
"In the game against Chicago, the Yellow Jackets won after Hust Stockton hit Two-Bits Homan for a 27-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to clinch the win. You've probably never heard of Hust Stockton, but you might have heard of his grandson, John Stockton, who is the NBA's all-time leader in assists."
While the Bears are certainly happy just to pick up another win, the coincidence here is absolutely astounding.
It took some late heroics from Moody, who had just been cut by the San Francisco 49ers a few weeks earlier, to make history, but Chicago has entered the history books.
Football historians will have to wait and see if the Bears can pull out a third straight 25-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 7.
