Heading into Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Bears got some tough news on Friday about one of their fun young players.
Kyle Monangai, who's been dealing with a thumb issue, was recently revealed to have a toe problem that was a lot more concerning than his thumb injury. Those concerns came to fruition on Friday with the latest update on his Week 5 status.
According to ESPN's Courtney Cronin, Monangai has been ruled out for Week 5 against the Packers, as his toe injury is more of a concern than originally believed. Cronin's second report indicates it might not only be a one-week issue for Monangai.
Bears get bad news on Kyle Monangai for Week 5
"Kyle Monangai is OUT for the Packers game, per Ben Johnson," Cronin reports. "His toe injury is a bigger concern than the team initially realized. Monangai saw a specialist and is currently in a boot. He will not practice today."
This update on the Bears' running back is not good at all. He's going to miss Week 5 against the NFC North rival Packers, and might miss a few more weeks as well.
Cronin followed up that original report on Monangai with what his status will look like going forward, and it's not good.
"Kyle Monangai is considered 'week-to-week' but is not a candidate for injured reserve," Cronin reports.

While it's good news that Monangai isn't an IR candidate, it's worrying that the Bears are going to be without one of their key running backs for at least a week or two.
Monangai's injury is bad enough that the fact that it's not an injury that requires IR is not a good sign. He's clearly a ways away from playing.
While he's already been ruled out for Week 5, his Week 6 status is not looking good either. No IR is a good thing, but he could still miss a week or two and still justify the Bears' decision not to place him on IR.
This is going to be a situation to monitor closely going forward, as the Bears' running back is very much up in the air for Week 6, and potentially beyond as well.
