Bears could be underrated landing spot for 4-time Pro Bowl wide receiver

The Chicago Bears have high hopes for 2026 after making a postseason run in 2025.

On paper, the team has a very talented roster, but the NFC North could end up being one of the toughest divisions in football again. On offense, the Bears can feel good about their quarterback position now, and they have a couple of reliable top receivers in Luther Burden and Rome Odunze.

However, you can always add more weapons, especially if you want to truly contend. As a result, the Bears could end up becoming an ideal landing spot for the top available wide receiver.

Bears make sense as landing spot for Stefon Diggs

Stefon Diggs has had a tumultuous offseason. The receiver was a key piece of the New England Patriots in 2025 and helped lead the team to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately for Diggs, he had some legal issues to work out and ended up being released after just one season in New England.

Now that the veteran has been cleared, he is free to sign with any team. It's expected that Diggs wants to join a contender, so the Bears make sense. Connor Byrne of Pro Football Rumors recently revealed his reasoning for the Bears making sense.

Chicago is probably content with the young duo of Rome Odunze and Luther Burden as its starters, making a Diggs pickup a long shot. But the team’s receiving corps inspires little confidence after Odunze, who trudged through a disappointing, injury-limited 2025, and the ascending Burden. The Bears’ biggest offseason moves at the position have been adding journeyman Kalif Raymond on a one-year, $5.1MM deal in free agency and drafting Zavion Thomas in the third round.

Moving down the depth chart, there is nothing resembling a proven threat in a group of receivers that includes Scotty MillerKaden DavisJahdae WalkerJP RichardsonOmari Kelly, Kyren Hudson and Maurice Alexander.

As Byrne mentioned, the Bears don't exactly have the deepest receiver room. Burden and Odunze should be good enough at the top, but you need more than two reliable receivers if you want to be among the league's best.

Diggs is not only still elite on the field, but he'd also be a reliable veteran for a young offense. In 2025, Diggs played in  all 17 games and caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.

The veteran has had at least 1,000 yards in seven of his 11 NFL seasons. Diggs earned Pro Bowl bids in every year from 2020 to 2023, and earned some Comeback Player of the Year votes after 2025.

Can Bears contend again in 2026?

It will certainly be interesting to see if the Bears can take another step forward in 2026. It won't be easy, because the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers are still tough, and the Minnesota Vikings could be improved with a new quarterback.

Caleb Williams was fantastic in 2025, but he'll need to be even better to go further this year. Adding a proven, Pro Bowl-caliber weapon like Diggs could help that happen. A receiver trio of Diggs, Burden, and Odunze, with Colston Loveland at tight end and D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai at running back? That could be a deadly offense.
