Bears blockbuster trade idea would dump multiple starters for $56 million Pro Bowler

Next season for the Chicago Bears will be very important. After another subpar season, the Bears fired their head coach. They must surround Caleb Williams with talent if they want to turn things around fast.

The Bears have playmakers but could look to shake things up. D.J. Moore has been a solid addition to the Bears, but there seems to be some frustration on his end. The team moved on from Justin Fields who he publically endorsed and then failed to get better in Caleb Williams' rookie year. Moore has a $24.0 million cap hit next season and Sports Illustrated's Alan Goldsher proposed this trade that would ship Moore and D'Andre Swift to the Cleveland Browns:

  • Bears receive: tight end David Njoku
  • Browns receive: wide receiver D.J. Moore and running back D'Andre Swift

"While Swift underperformed in his first year in Chicago, Cleveland is sorely in need of an RB1 who can stay healthy—poor Nick Chubb is an injury-waiting-to-happen—so the two potentially-former-Bears would be ideal additions to a Browns’ rebooted offense that might be led by a newbie like Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders," wrote Goldsher.

Njoku was a Pro Bowler in 2023 and has been a good player for the Browns since he came into the league. He is an athletic tight end who can make plays after the catch. He could be a great addition for Williams. He has 30 touchdowns in his career and caught 97 passes in 11 games last year.

Njoku signed a four-year, $56 million extension with the Browns in 2022. He will be a free agent after next season and the Browns could be looking to start fresh. Losing Moore and Swift would be a big blow, but it would give the Bears more room to spend and allow Roschon Johnson to have a crack at the starting running back job.
