Earlier this week, Bayern Munich announced that their head coach, Vincent Kompany, has signed a two-year contract extension, which will keep him at the German club until June 2029.
Kompany was appointed by Bayern in May last year following his two-year managerial stint at Burnley, and his initial contract with the Bavarians was set to expire in the summer of 2027.
After signing the contract extension, the former Manchester City captain shared his thoughts, expressing his gratitude to the Bundesliga giants, and said,
"I'm grateful, honoured and would like to thank Bayern for the trust and the working environment they've given me from day one. It feels like I've been here a lot longer and that I know the club well. It's been a great experience so far. We've started on a wonderful journey," as per GOAL.
In his debut season as Bayern's manager, Kompany led the squad to win the Bundesliga title, which explains the Bavarians' decision to offer the Belgian coach a contract extension.
However, a recent report by TZ Muenchen, as translated and relayed by iMiaSanMia, has suggested that Bayern's move over this new deal was made early on in anticipation of any potential interest from Manchester City in signing Kompany.

Bayern were reportedly concerned that Man City would be keen on bringing back their former star in a managerial role to Etihad as their current head coach Pep Guardiola's successor.
Guardiola's current deal at Man City is set to expire in the summer of 2027, which is the same time as Kompany's previous one at Bayern, which reportedly made the 39-year-old manager's contract renewal an 'urgent matter' for the Bavarians.
What did the Bayern Munich president say about Vincent Kompany?
Following the contract renewal, Bayern president Herbert Hainer heaped praise on Kompany, claiming that he brings an 'incredible sense of togetherness' to the squad, and said,
"He's doing an incredibly good job. We're playing very attractive football, scoring lots of goals. There's an incredible sense of togetherness, that comes from the coach, who does that brilliantly both from a sporting and personal point of view."
Following their recent Champions League win over Club Brugge, Kompany and his squad will now return to Bundesliga action in their match against Borussia Monchengladbach on October 25.
