Colizzi is joining the so-called Global Chairman Group, which was created on 2021 to shift some of the bank’s most senior rainmakers into new roles to cultivate and maintain key client relationships. The group is co-led by Mark Zanoli and Ingrid Hengster and counts other veteran bankers like Iain Smedley, Kurt Kohlmeyer and Grant Porter among its members.

Colizzi joined Barclays as head of investment banking for Italy in 2012 and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming head of M&A for EMEA in 2015. During the pandemic, he moved to Milan and became head of investment banking for continental Europe and co-head of EMEA M&A in 2021. Colizzi previously worked for Citigroup Inc. and Credit Suisse.

During his career, Colizzi advised on high-profile deals including the merger of Sweden’s Lundin Energy SA’s oil and gas business with Norway’s Aker BP, Macquarie Group Ltd.’s acquisition of Danish telecom firm TDC A/S and the Australian firm’s significant stake purchase in Italy’s Open Fiber. In Italy, he has worked closely with major local firms including Eni SpA, Enel SpA and Telecom Italia SpA.

The move coincides with Barclays’ focus on establishing the next generation of dealmakers. Last year, the lender hired former Credit Suisse banker Stephen Pick as its new head of M&A in EMEA. Pick’s appointment came as Omar Faruqui, who used to co-lead M&A in the region along with Colizzi, joined the UK takeover panel as a director general for a two-year secondment.
