Barcelona target set to sign a new contract with current club as new release clause revealed

Barcelona are in the market for a centre-back especially after the departure of Inigo Martinez, who was a crucial player for Hansi Flick last season in their domestic treble. 

The veteran Spaniard was a pivotal player in maintaining Flick's traditional high-line defense and therefore in his absence, Barcelona have looked lacklustre without the ball and also in the press. 

Therefore, the Blaugrana were looking at several centre-back options and Sporting CP star defender Goncalo Inacio fits the profile perfectly. 

The Portugal international is one of the most promising defenders in the world right now and on top of that he has all the attributes needed to succeed at Camp Nou. 

However, recent reports on Diario Sport will surely dampen the mood at Barcelona as Sporting are in talks with Inacio over his contract renewal, keeping him at the club until 2030 and also increasing his release clause from €60m to €80m ($93.2m).

Sporting are keen to reach an agreement with the young defender as almost half of Europe are interested in the Portuguese centre-back.

They probably understand that they won't keep Inacio for many more years, but they are desperate to earn as much as possible on his sale, whenever that happens. 

Why are Barcelona chasing Sporting's Inacio?

Inacio has risen through the ranks at Sporting CP's illustrious youth academy and has now become one of the best young defenders in the world right now. 

He is left-footed, excellent with the ball in buildup and also reads the game really well and would be an ideal centre-back partner for Pau Cubarsi if the move to Barcelona materializes. 

Barcelona are showing strong interest in Portuguese international as sporting director Deco met the player's representatives. 

Inacio's tactical awareness, passing range and progressive carries have made him one of the most desirable defenders in the market right now. 

Apart from Barcelona, clubs like Liverpool, Newcastle United, Manchester United, etc. have been linked with the 23-year-old centre-back.
