Barcelona are reportedly set to part ways with their Number. 10, Ansu Fati, this summer.
Fati, who started his senior career with Barcelona in 2019, inherited the number 10 shirt from club legend Lionel Messi in 2021. The jersey came with great expectations for the La Masia graduate, whose performances saw a decline.
Fati also moved way down on Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick's pecking order, making only 11 appearances across all competitions for the Catalan club in the 2024/25 season. He was also on a season-long loan deal without an option to buy Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2023/24 campaign.
While it has been anticipated that he is currently not included in Flick's plans for the future, questions surfaced about what's next for the 22-year-old. Fati has been linked with a move to AS Monaco for a while now.
However, Barcelona and Monaco hit some bumps during the negotiation of the deal, which has reopened, according to a report from Foot Mercato.
Having no offers for the club graduate so far, Barcelona are now open to a loan deal for Fati, and sporting director Deco hinted (comments via GOAL) the same over the weekend.

"With his age and the career he's had, he can't stay without playing. We're open and we won't put obstacles in his way if he wants to leave. Yes, we've spoken with Monaco. Ansu is under contract, if he asks to leave it would be a loan. He's 23, we talk about him as if he were 30, but he still has to grow and he still has a lot to learn," he said.
What's next for Barcelona's Ansu Fati and AS Monaco?
Barcelona and Monaco are finalizing the details of the loan contract, which includes an optional buy clause, according to Fabrizio Romano. The transfer expert further reported that the Ligue 1 side are preparing for Ansu Fati to undergo medical this week to seal the signing.
Reports have suggested that Fati has already reached an agreement on personal terms with Monaco. Even though Barcelona will continue to partially pay the winger's salary, this potential loan deal grants some relief to the Catalan side and also opens chances for the player to have some more minutes on the pitch.
Fati's current contract at Barcelona is valid until the summer of 2027.
