Bad Bunny height requirement: Why Super Bowl 60 halftime show casting call shortchanged some fans

The Super Bowl 60 halftime show has been riddled with controversy well before it even starts.

When Bad Bunny was selected, it stirred outrage among President Trump and his constituents. If that wasn’t bad enough, now some of Bad Bunny’s own fans are upset.

There was plenty of support from Bad Bunny fans initially, until the application process for participating in the setup and breakdown of the Super Bowl stage -- and the performance itself -- rubbed some the wrong way. While many were excited about the possibility of volunteering, they were disappointed to learn there was a height requirement they had to meet to be considered.

Bad Bunny height requirement

An application for volunteers to be included in Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show went out. Hopeful fans instantly realized that the application stated they would have a very specific height requirement and that applicants would be vetted. To be eligible to participate in the show, fans had to be between 5-foot-7 inches and 6-foot tall. 

This rubbed many fans who were not tall enough to qualify for the event the wrong way. Other requirements for selection include having a "sender to athletic build" and the ability to wear and move easily in costumes weighing up to 40 pounds. With the event so close, the application process has ended. 

Backlit Support is the organization that organized the applications, said that "the height requirements will be very important for participation in this one and will be verified through the rehearsal process." There was another height requirement for the Field Cast which sounds like it would be more for during the actual performance, and that required a height between 5-10 and 6-1.

Bad Bunny fans react to height requirement

Fans were quick to point out that the height requirement would keep out a significant portion of his fan base. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, Hispanic women in the United States average 5-2, and the average Mexican American woman is slightly shorter and 5 ft. 1.7 inches tall. 

A video of the application and the unfortunate height requirement went viral on TikTok. 

Emma Negrete, a singer, said that she has "never been so sad in my life to be 5 foot tall." Another user on TikTok said, "Like come on, Benito, why are you doing us shorties like that??"

Super Bowl 60 halftime show stage details

If Super Bowl 60 follows in the footsteps of recent Super Bowls, the stage will be in the middle of the football field. Usually, it is set up around the 50-yard line, and the performance can go all-around the stage, but usually staying within the confines of the field. The actual details for Bad Bunny's stage at Super Bowl 60 have not been released, but it sounds like in order to set it up and break it down, it would help if you were at least 5-foot-7 and not taller than 6-foot-1.
