The Marvel Cinematic Universe Avengers: Doomsday reported trailer leak seemingly confirms one of the franchise's biggest secrets: the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers.

The leaked footage, which is rumored to be a quiet, character-focused scene, reportedly shows Steve at the home from Avengers: Endgame, hinting at his life with Peggy Carter and concluding with the dramatic on-screen title card:

"Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday."

However, Marvel Studios has not officially released this teaser trailer yet, and the studio hasn’t publicly confirmed its authenticity. What’s circulating online is still considered unofficial or a leak.

The cast is already confirmed to include Robert Downey Jr. as the villain Doctor Doom, alongside legacy heroes like Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and the new generation of Avengers. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 18, 2026.

Chris Evans to likely return as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday

Multiple outlets and fan reports claim a leaked teaser for Avengers: Doomsday has surfaced online, showing what appears to be Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers in a quiet, emotional moment instead of big action sequences. But, Chris Evans’ participation is still unverified by Marvel Studios and until the studio releases an official teaser or announcement, we won’t know for sure how accurate these leaks are.

Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of the biggest movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the filmmakers behind Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Doomsday promises a massive team-up of heroes facing threats that could shake the entire multiverse.

A few days ago, Marvel finally revealed the official cast. Instead of listing only a few stars, they announced an enormous ensemble of more than 20 actors from across the MCU and even from older X-Men movies. Notably, the list that even included the Fantastic Four team, Chris Evans was not included in this cast announcement.

The film takes place about a year after the events of Thunderbolts*. The threat isn’t just about one world, it involves dangerous multiversal forces that could tear entire realities apart. It movie will set up the next huge MCU film, Avengers: Secret Wars.

Chris Evans, who is reported to return in the upcoming film, played Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain American, appeared in Phase 1 to 3 films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; appearing finally in the Avengers: Endgame. After Endgame brought Steve Rogers’ story to a satisfying close, the actor said in multiple interviews that he felt “happily retired” from the role.

For Evans, Endgame was not just another movie, but a natural ending to a character he had played for nearly a decade. He explained that Steve Rogers’ journey felt complete and that he didn’t want to return unless there was a truly special reason to do so.
