Australia and Egypt meet on Friday at AT&T Stadium in Dallas in the World Cup Round of 32, with a place in the last 16 up for grabs.
The Socceroos reached the knockouts as Group D runners-up behind hosts the United States, beating Turkey 2-0 but managing no other goals across the group stage after a defeat to the USA and a goalless draw with Paraguay.
Egypt came through second in Group G behind Belgium, drawing with the Belgians and Iran either side of a 3-1 win over New Zealand. The Pharaohs are still chasing a first World Cup knockout win in their history, and much will hinge on the fitness of talisman Mohamed Salah.
Here is how we expect the teams to line up.

Australia projected starting 11
(3-4-3, right to left): 18. P. Beach (GK) — 3. A. Circati, 19. H. Souttar, 25. L. Harrington — 16. A. Behic, 13. A. O'Neill. 22. J. Irvine, 5. J. Bos — 18. C. Metcalfe, 7. N. Irankunda, 20. C. Volpato
- Injured: J. Italiano (groin), M. Leckie (hamstring)
- Suspended: None
Tony Popovic may elect to field an unchanged side from the draw with Paraguay, particularly with Jacob Italiano and Mathew Leckie still out of action.
Youngster Nestory Irankunda will carry the threat to the Egypt backline, although the influence of wingbacks Aziz Behich and Jordan Bos could be important in transition.
Egypt projected starting 11
(4-2-3-1, right to left): 23. M. Shobeir (GK) — 3. M. Hany, 5. R. Rabiaa, 6. M. Abdelmoneim, 13. A. Fatouh — 8. E. Ashour, 14. H. Fathy — 20. I. Adel, 22. O. Marmoush, 7. M. Trezeguet — 10. M. Salah
- Injured: M. Salah (hamstring), H. Fathy (groin), H. Abdelmaguid (head), M. Abdelmonem (ankle), A. El Fotouh (hamstring)
- Suspended: M. Lasheen
Egypt have a string of injury doubts, none more important than Mohamed Salah, whose hamstring injury could keep him out of the lineup. The Pharaohs will wait until as late as possible to give him the best chance of being available.
Definitely out is Mohanad Lasheen, who must serve a suspension for this game.
Australia vs. Egypt predictions, betting odds
This has the makings of a tight, low-scoring contest between two evenly matched sides. Australia are well organised but blunt in attack, and if Salah is fit to lead the Egyptian counter, the Pharaohs have the match-winner to settle it.
- Score prediction: Australia 0-1 Egypt
