Aubrey Plaza, Christopher Abbott Make Red Carpet Debut at Tony Awards

While Plaza has been out and about since confirming she and Abbott were expecting, the June 7 award show is the first time the couple have attended a red carpet together. 

In fact, the pair—who met while working together on 2019’s Black Bear, though their relationship didn’t turn romantic until years later—have kept their comments on their incoming baby to a lighthearted minimum. 

For Abbott’s part, while appearing on Today in May, the Girls alum decided to have fun when host Jenna Bush Hager congratulated him on his and Plaza’s pregnancy, he noted it isn’t the only milestone he has in his life right now.

"I thought—for my Tony nom," he quipped. "I'm kidding, I know. There's too much going on."

The 40-year-old then added, in all seriousness, “That's very nice, thank you very much. It's very exciting."

Plaza, for her part, has also taken her pregnancy as an opportunity to draw a humorous connection to another member of her family: her dog.

“Today was a big day. I went to the doctor's today,” the Parks & Recreation alum said during the April 13 episode of the Smartless podcast. “My dog also went to the doctor’s. Both of us—my dog's getting a scan right now. I got a scan earlier. I'm not kidding. She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach."

She added, “And then I got an ultrasound on my stomach, and there is a baby in there."

As for her impending new role—that of mom—the 41-year-old is looking forward to navigating new territory. 

"I've always wanted to see what that's all about," Plaza said of motherhood. "It just seems so interesting, that whole thing.”
