While the Athletics missed the postseason, there were some good things to take away from this season. They finished the year with a 76-86 record, which has been their most wins since 2021.
The emergence of Nick Kurtz certainly helped bring this team up a notch with what he did offensively in 2025. Being called up in late April, the young slugger started 117 games, hitting .290/.383/.619 with 36 home runs and 86 runs batted in, including a four-homer game against the Houston Astros in July.
The club will look to continue to improve and come out as a stronger team in 2026. To do so, they will have to look at the open market to help fill some of the holes the club has.
Athletics could be at play to sign Yankees reliever during the offseason
One area the A's could use an upgrade in is the bullpen. They lost their closer, Mason Miller, at the deadline as the club shipped him off to the San Diego Padres.
This is where Luke Weaver comes in. The starting pitcher turned reliever will be a free agent during the offseason, and MLB's Mark Feinsand believes he could fit in nicely with the A's.
However, he also views the Arizona Diamondbacks as a possible destination and has not ruled out a potential return to the New York Yankees. Another thing to note is Weaver's willingness to return to his role as a starting pitcher.
Luckily for Weaver, the Athletics could also use another starting pitcher. But with their track record, the front office will have to put together an undeniable offer if they want to sway Weaver into signing with them.
