The Houston Astros are seeking a replacement for injured third baseman Isaac Paredes at the trade deadline.
Houston is interested in bringing back a long-time Astro, but he isn’t a third baseman. He’s a shortstop.
The Astros and the Minnesota Twins have had discussions regarding shortstop Carlos Correa, but “the sides are far apart at the moment and no deal is close,” according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Correa, 30, spent his first seven seasons in Houston from 2015 to 2021, winning the World Series with the team in 2017.
This season, Correa has seven home runs and 31 RBI while slashing just .267/.319/.386 in 93 games.
USA TODAY Sports’ Bob Nightengale reported that Correa is open to waiving his no-trade clause to come back to Houston.

“Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa has told friends on the Houston Astros that he'd be willing to waive his no-trade clause to rejoin them, and would welcome playing third base. The Astros badly need a 3B with Isaac Paredes expected to miss rest of season,” wrote Nightengale on X.
Correa signed with the Twins in 2022 but was in-line to sign a massive 13-year, $350 million contract with the San Francisco Giants until a disagreement regarding Correa’s physical voided the contract.
Correa has been solid for Minnesota when he’s healthy, but his power numbers have steadily decreased since joining the Twins.
Familiarity could help spark Correa's power if a trade to Houston does formulate.
