Astros predicted to pair Jeremy Pena with 20 home run slugger

Teams around Major League Baseball always select for talent during the draft, and the Houston Astros should follow that. There could be a scenario where the Astros love a player at a certain position, but ultimately, they have to take the top player on their board at No. 21.

When searching for who that player might be, The Sporting Tribune recently predicted them to select Wehiwa Aloy, a shortstop out of the University of Arkansas. Aloy, arguably the top player in college baseball last season, would be an excellent addition after winning the Golden Spikes Award.

“Neyens gets a lot of traction here, but he might be outpriced for Houston who has the fourth smallest bonus pool and other teams potentially looking to swing him down a tick. I'm not sure that would take Houston entirely out, but it leans me towards the Astros recent philosophy of offensive-minded collegiates like Aloy or others already mentioned.

“I think Houston would love a shot at Gage Wood,” they wrote.

It's a bit surprising to see Aloy this low in some mock drafts, but nearly every outlet has him going in the 20s.

He had a ridiculous season at Arkansas last year, hitting 20 home runs, 18 doubles, and driving in 64.

Factor that in with his .355 batting average and OPS well above 1.000, and he was deserving of every award that he received.

It'll be interesting to see if he flies up draft boards a few days before the draft, but it's only a week away now, and most scouts and writers believe Aloy will fall to a team like the Astros or someone around their pick
