The Houston Astros will head into the offseason looking to make a move for a starting pitcher. They could be without their ace Framber Valdez, who will be a free agent when the season comes to an end.
Luckily for them, there will be quite a few intriguing options they could turn to on the open market. Dylan Cease will be a free agent, and so will Ranger Suarez, and both could be great Valdez replacements.
However, free agency is not the only place that Houston could acquire another arm. They could look at making a trade to pick up a frontline starter.
Astros linked to Marlins' Sandy Alcantara in latest trade rumors
One option the Astros could look at is whether the Miami Marlins will make Sandy Alcantara available. The club tried to trade him at the deadline, but could not find a suitable trade partner, so they held onto him.
The Athletic's Jim Bowden believes Miami will once again look to trade Alcantara. If that becomes true, he points to Houston as being a potential trade partner, but the price must be right for that to happen.
"If Miami doesn't get the asking price it wants this winter, the team will just hold onto him until next year's trade deadline, giving him further time to get back to his level of dominance. Teams likely to have interest include the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Astros, Baltimore Orioles, and New York Yankees."
Hosuton would likely have to part ways with two of their top prospects to make this happen. A combination of Brice Matthews and Walker Janek, alongside a lower-level prospect, might be enough to sway Miami.
