A lot of stories are coming together as the MLB trade deadline takes place on Thursday. Rumors are picking up, and top players in the league have heard their names tossed around in trade talks.
The Houston Astros have entered the trade rumors recently. With a four-game lead in the AL West, they have struggled to put together consistent baseball like they had in previous months.
Injuries have been a key reason behind this, and the Astros could be on the verge of possibly losing third baseman Isaac Paredes for an extended period with a hamstring strain.
Astros' general manager Dana Brown revealed over the weekend that Paredes' injury is "a little more severe than we projected."
With this news, it's been revealed that the Astros have entered the sweepstakes for Arizona Diamondbacks' third baseman Eugenio Suarez.
The Athletic's Chandler Rome reported on Monday, saying, "Suárez is the most straightforward way to address Paredes’ potential season-long absence and, according to multiple league sources, the Astros have at least checked in with the Arizona Diamondbacks to make their interest known."
Houston has shown slight interest in the Diamondbacks' third baseman, but there are questions about how Suarez would fit into the Astros' lineup. His defense would be an obvious downgrade, but his ability to hit with power could be a great way to replace Paredes in the batting lineup.
Suarez is tied for the fourth most home runs in the MLB this season with 36 and leads the league in RBI with 87. His expiring contract has him getting owed $15 million this season, so the Astros would be getting him on a rental deal.
