Just a few days ago, Houston Astros bench coach Omar Lopez led Venezuela to their first World Baseball Classic championship, crowning the South American country as the best in baseball. After the final pitch was thrown, Lopez was visibly emotional; the same could be said for many of the players and staff on the squad.

Omar Lopez wraps up WBC experience with fond memories and his eyes set on the MLB season
Today, Omar Lopez showed up in West Palm Beach with a smile on his face when he met with reporters. When asked about his experience at the WBC, he said that it was “a dream come true.”
Omar Lopez had plenty of iconic moments in the tournament, which included bringing the Venezuela coaching staff to his post-game press conference, describing to a national audience how he helped sign Astros legend Jose Altuve to the organization, and navigating pitch restrictions.
A storyline to keep tabs on is whether Omar Lopez attracts interest from MLB teams or if he stays put with the Astros. But for now, he’s back in camp and gearing up for what’ll be a year of transition for Houston.
