The Houston Astros sit square in the middle of the World Series race, posting a 50-34 record so far in 2025 with a commanding lead in the AL West.
However, much like any other contender, they are certainly going to try to make some moves to improve their team at the MLB trade deadline. One baseball insider linked them to a player who is only a few years removed from joining the rare "30-30" (30 HRs, 30 SB) club.
USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported that Houston is "aggressively looking for a left-handed bat on the market," with what appears to be their top option being Orioles center fielder Cedric Mullins.
Mullins has had a solid career with Baltimore thus far, solely manning center field in Camden Yards for much of his time since making his debut in 2018.
His batting average this season has dipped a bit below his career average. He is currently hitting just .219, but he has also slugged 12 HRs and 39 RBI along with eight stolen bases. His slugging percentage is the highest of his career since his 2021 Silver Slugger campaign.
Mullins would add that much-needed left-handed bat to the Astros lineup while also filling a position of need in the outfield.
The Astros have been quite thin in the outfield since trading Kyle Tucker to the Cubs, and Mullins would provide a sure-fire glove that may even push Jake Meyers to one of the corner outfield spots.
Mullins, age 30, is set to enter free agency this winter, so this trade would be a rental from a Baltimore team looking to bounce back from its horrific 2025 season in the future.
