Ashton Jeanty offers 4-word response on Chicago Bears draft decision

The NFL Draft is one of the most highly anticipated events on the entire sports calendar, and for good reason. Finding out where the sport's future stars will begin their professional careers is a thrill, and trades are an added element that make draft night even more special.

With the 2025 NFL Draft taking place in Green Bay, the Chicago Bears can steal the show in their division rival’s own building by making a blockbuster trade — and that’s exactly what they’ll need to do if they hope to land Boise State University star running back Ashton Jeanty.

Despite narrowly missing out on winning the Heisman Trophy in the closest race since 2009, Jeanty put together one of the most jaw-dropping seasons ever by a running back in 2024. Jeanty tore up opposing defenses to the tune of 2,601 rushing yards (on 7.0 yards per carry) and 30 total touchdowns, which helped the Broncos clinch their first College Football Playoff appearance.

The Bears hold the No. 10 overall pick, which in most years might be good enough to land the best running back in the draft, but Jeanty is a clear exception to the norm – and even he knows it.

“There’s a high need for running backs… and teams are willing to trade up for a guy like me,” Jeanty told the Chicago Sun-Times.

For Bears fans who are optimistic that Jeanty will be there when Chicago is on the clock, the Boise State star was frank about his chances of falling to No. 10: “I’m gone before that.”

With most draft experts, and Jeanty himself, expecting the star running back to go within the first few picks, Chicago will need to make a move to get their guy.

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders (who have picks No. 5 and 6, respectively) have been linked to Jeanty throughout the draft process, meaning Chicago’s best chance at landing him might be via a trade with the New England Patriots for the No. 4 overall pick.

It won’t be cheap for the Bears to move into the top five, but Ben Johnson and company will need to hit the phone lines if they believe Jeanty could be the final piece to unlocking Caleb Williams and the rest of Chicago’s revamped offense.
