Arsenal set to battle for in-demand Premier League midfielder

Arsenal are close to announcing their first signing of the summer, with Martin Zubimendi arriving soon from Real Sociedad. The Gunners are also hoping to finalize a deal for a new striker, but talks with their top target, Benjamin Šeško, have stalled.

Mikel Arteta is waiting to learn the future of Thomas Partey, who could be joining Jorginho in leaving the club. Partey's potential departure could mean another defensive midfielder will be brought into the club.

Arteta has his eyes set on a Premier League star, but he's not the only manager eyeing the midfielder.

Who has Arsenal been linked with if Partey leaves?

Arsenal will have to wait and see if Partey signs a new contract, but his replacement could be Christian Nørgaard from Brentford, according to reports from The Standard.

The Danish international has impressed Arteta, partly due to his success with Brentford this season. Nørgaard contributed six goals and four assists in all competitions, in what may have been his best season yet.

The Brentford captain has excelled on the pitch and would be a perfect addition to the Arsenal midfield. The Gunners are short on options to play alongside Declan Rice, especially if Partey fails to renew his contract. Nørgaard has the Premier League success that Arteta is looking for.

Arteta is also looking for leaders in his team, and Nørgaard's captaincy at Brentford make him the ideal candidate to replace Partey.

However, Arsenal will face competition in signing Nørgaard, as Thomas Frank is keen on reuniting with the Dane at Tottenham. A North London Derby might be shaping up to take place during the summer transfer window.
