Arsenal outcast confident of making comeback into Mikel Arteta’s lineup

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is spoilt for choice in attack.

Gone are the days of struggling with an ageing frontline as the Gunners' attacking revamp has been one of the highlights of Arteta’s tenure so far.

Big-money signing Viktor Gyokeres has made a blistering start in London, while the Spaniard also has trusted options in Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Eberechi Eze, Gabriel Martinelli, and the currently sidelined pair Kai Havertz and Noni Madueke.

But one returning Gunner is keen to remind everyone of his quality ahead of Saturday's (October 25) Premier League league clash with Crystal Palace.

Jesus finally returns

Gabriel Jesus is eager to fight for a starting role after a lengthy injury layoff.

The Brazil international has been sidelined for over eight months, since undergoing surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament injury in back in January.

Jesus was a key figure when he arrived in London from Manchester City in 2022, but injuries and inconsistent form had seen him slide down the pecking order, with Havertz taking his place in attack for much of last season.

"Every day, the [Arsenal] coach and the board say they're eager for my return," he said ahead of Arsenal's match against Palace.

"I don't see myself outside the club's plans. I have a contract until 2027, and if it's not renewed by then, I'll be at the club at least until 2027."

Speaking to Arsenal's media channel ahead of Saturday's match, Jesus reflected on his recovery and readiness to return to action.

"I'm feeling great, my knee is responding very well. I'm looking forward to being around the team again soon, to come back to do what I love to do.

"It's been too long. This one is the biggest injury I've had in my life. An injury like this, one that is so long, you split up the recovery periods into smaller timings.

"So now I'm at the stage where I need to hold myself back a little bit because I'm doing great work off the pitches, but it's tricky because I need to not rush myself too hard over the line.

"When you can see the end, it's important you don't push too hard, keep my feet on the floor, and then as soon as the time comes, I will be ready."
