This season is set to bring an end to an era at the Allianz Arena, as Leon Goretzka’s eight-season run with Bayern Munich is set to be wrapped up, as his contract will expire in the coming weeks.
When all is said and done, Goretzka will leave the Bavarian giants as a seven-time Bundesliga Champion, as well as with a lone Champions League medal, for his efforts in Bayern’s 2019-2020 victory in the Continental Competition.
It’s worth pointing out that even in his age-30 season, the German midfielder was still at the top of his craft with Bayern Munich, getting involved in nine goal involvements, as well as recording 33 interceptions and winning out on 22 tackles.
European giants looking towards Bavaria for their next signing
Perhaps it’s these numbers, or just the reputation that his name alone brings, that are making some of the bigger teams across Europe fawn over the idea of getting him aboard, with Arsenal and Juventus being among those teams, as reported by Gazzetta’s Fabio Russo.
“...the German's entourage began to reconnect with those who had expressed interest in him: Premier League teams, including Arsenal, the "all-rounder's" lifelong dream; Turkish clubs, increasingly capable of attracting stars from abroad thanks to a generous salary policy; and even Juventus,” stated Russo.
Goretzka would be a welcome addition to the Allianz Stadium if he were to move to Serie A, given Juventus’ Europa League slate of games coming up, following their sixth-place finish, the lowest place they’ve been in since the 2022-23 campaign.
The German midfielder’s fit in with Arsenal would be an interesting one, as their midfield already features the likes of Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Norgaard, among others.
This is to say that while the German would certainly add quality to Mikel Arteta’s squad, he might not get all the playing time in the world, but they are set to return to the Champions League, which could be a big enough draw for the 30-year-old.
Any move out of Germany would be the first time in his career taking his talents outside his nation, having spent time at VfL Bochum and Schalke 04 before joining Bayern Munich.
According to Russo's report, Goretzka is planning on taking his time making the big decision, which shouldn't come as too much of a surprise given that he's set to be a key part of Germany's squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, the third World Cup selection of his career.
