Liverpool kicked off life as Premier League champions with a 3-1 defeat away at rivals Chelsea.
The Reds returned to the day job after jubilant celebrations at Anfield on April 27 as they sealed a second EPL crown in five years.
It capped off a superb first season on Merseyside for Arne Slot, as the Dutch coach steered his team over the title line, but they suffered a hangover at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are chasing a UEFA Champions League qualification spot for next season and they had too much for Slot's rotated Reds.
Slot gave some of his fringe players a chance to impress in West London, but they slipped to defeat in front of their buoyant travelling fans.
After the game, Slot was pressed on his transfer plans for the summer, with the club's ownership preparing to back him to bring in new faces for the 2025/26 campaign.

However, despite the ongoing speculation over who could come in at Anfield, Slot once again repeated his ongoing point of the squad being ideally placed to challenge for major honours again in 2026.
"It's already been a big summer because we've extended Virgil [van Dijk] and Mo [Salah], and for large parts of the season, I don't think everyone expected that," as per quotes from BBC Sport.

"For us to keep them is a big thing. I've said already I'm happy with the squad we have. We will see what the summer brings but sometimes it can be good to bring in fresh energy.
"It has already been a good summer and we won the league. Only if we see someone on the market who can improve us [will a move be made]."
Liverpool can now finish the season with a maximum of 91 points - if Slot wins his remaining three games - which would leave him below three of the final points tallies achieved by Jurgen Klopp.
