As the World Cup reaches the final day of the Round of 32, Argentina is ready to continue its title defense against Cape Verde.
Lionel Messi and the rest of the defending champions were perfect in the group stage, getting three wins while scoring eight goals and allowing just one to their opponents. Messi himself was exceptional, as he scored six goals in those three games, including a hat trick against Algeria.
Therefore, Argentina remains one of the most dangerous teams in the tournament, especially with Messi seemingly still performing at the highest level. Still, one slip up could mean an early exit, with Cape Verde up next in hopes of continuing the underdog story.
Cape Verde surprisingly finished in second place in Group H thanks to three straight draws, including one draw against heavily-favored Spain. Officially the smallest nation to make a World Cup knockout stage, Cape Verde has punched above its weight in its first World Cup appearance.
In the group stage, Cape Verde scored just two goals, but also allowed just two goals as the team was part of two different 0-0 draws. That defense will certainly be tested against the best player in the world and the defending champions.
