I’ve rented pretty much my entire adult life, and honestly, I can’t remember ever having a landlord who didn’t eventually reveal themselves to be at least a little bit of a selfish greedy scumbag.

Maybe they start out friendly, but give it enough time and suddenly they’re ignoring maintenance requests, keeping deposits for “damages” that existed before you moved in, or raising rent like they’re trying to personally finance a yacht.

At this point, hearing nightmare landlord stories barely even shocks me anymore. It mostly just makes me wonder if genuinely good landlords actually exist or if they’re some kind of modern myth.
