Are the Knicks going to White House? Latest news on New York invite from Donald Trump to celebrate NBA championship

1 hour ago 3

The New York Knicks will celebrate their first NBA title in 53 years over the course of the next several months, which seems to include taking the celebration to Washington D.C.

While visiting the White House was once a foregone conclusion for NBA champions, teams that won the title haven't been as focused on visiting the president over the past decade. That is especially the case for when Donald Trump has been in office, with NBA teams being the most reluctant to visit President Trump.

Trump, though, has a connection with the Knicks and owner James Dolan, which could lead to the team making the trip south for a day. That could come during the Summer or on an off day during the NBA season when the Knicks are already in Washington.

Here's the latest on the Knicks' White House plans.

What Knicks players are going to White House?

Dolan said the details of the Knicks' White House visit are still to be determined, which includes who will join him in Washington, D.C. New York is focused on celebrating its title with the city first before worrying about what comes after.

The only player to comment on it thus far is Jose Alvarado, who said he would do what the team wanted.

"If there's a chance, I'm going wherever my teammate goes," Alvarado said, via TMZ.

NBA teams to visit Donald Trump

In Donald Trump's two separate terms, no NBA champion has visited him in the White House. During his first term, Trump was president while the Golden State Warriors won back-to-back titles, and he was also president when the Toronto Raptors won their first NBA Finals.

Since Trump's second term began, the Oklahoma City Thunder were the only team to win the title, but they didn't visit the White House last year.
