Arber Xhekaj's mom Simona asks for points as birthday gift, Canadiens suffer 7-0 shutout loss to Stars

Simona, the mother of Montreal Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj, asked her son and the team for points as a birthday gift.

However, Simona’s wish turned into a tough night for Arber and the Canadiens, as they suffered a humiliating 7-0 shutout defeat to the Dallas Stars on Thursday at the Bell Centre.

Simona took to X (formerly called Twitter), writing:

“OK fellas, it’s my birthday, can you get a couple points for me tonight? Please and thank you 👌🙏❤ BTW I had an awesome day so far.

The defeat marked the Canadiens' first shutout loss of the season, with their biggest 7-0 margin. The Habs are riding on a two-game losing streak, still holding the first spot in the Atlantic Division with a 10-5-2 record.

Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher shared his thoughts after the humiliating defeat to the Stars at home. In his post-game media interaction, Gallagher said:

“Concerned? No, because I know the answer lies in this room. But we gotta put in the work. Obviously, early on in the year, a lot of things were going our way. Right now, it’s not. We’ve been through this as a group enough to understand what it’s going to take to get out of it, and we’re confident we will.”

The Habs will aim to resume their winning ways when they face the Boston Bruins on Saturday. The puck at Centre Bell drops at 7 p.m. ET.
