Anthony Davis reignites Lakers-Rob Pelinka drama after cryptic post involving LeBron James

The Los Angeles Lakers made the shocking decision to trade Anthony Davis for Luka Dončić over a year ago. Since then, the two sides have gone their separate ways, including Davis being traded again from the Dallas Mavericks.

Right before Davis was moved, he made it known that he believed the team needed another center, since he felt he played his best at the position himself. Davis viewed that as the missing piece to sustained success.

“I think we need another big," Davis told ESPN's Shams Charania over a year ago. "I feel like I've always been at my best when I've been the 4, having a big out there."

Fast forward to Wednesday, when the Lakers finally made the decision to trade for Walker Kessler. The move sent the NBA world into a frenzy, considering general manager Rob Pelinka never added a true center for either LeBron James or Davis during their time together. Fox Sports Radio’s Cuffs the Legend took to social media to rip Pelinka for what he viewed as a missed opportunity.

“Anthony Davis practically begged Rob Pelinka to get him a CENTER alongside him for YEARS… Rob didn’t budge. AD got back doored.. Bron lowkey got back doored.. and NOW he wanna be a competent GM now that the duo that won you a championship is gone.. you can’t make this sh*t up LOL,” he posted.

Davis and James did deliver a championship to the Lakers organization, but they often did so without consistent roster support from Pelinka. Davis later responded to the post with laughing emojis.

It is safe to say there is no love lost between Pelinka and Davis, as the reaction suggested lingering frustration over how things were handled in Los Angeles. What was expected to be a straightforward free agency period has instead turned into another chapter of Lakers drama.

Davis is currently a Washington Wizard, but that could change if a trade materializes. After remaining relatively quiet, Davis appears more willing to acknowledge that things were not always handled properly during his tenure with the Lakers.
