Another former Michigan Wolverines assistant who spent time under coach Sherrone Moore is headed to the NFL.
The Baltimore Ravens are close to hiring Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito for the same role, The Athletic reported. The move would mark Esposito’s first NFL job and a notable addition for new Ravens head coach Jesse Minter as he continues to assemble his inaugural staff.
Esposito joined Michigan in 2024 after a six-year run at Western Michigan, where he served as defensive coordinator and defensive line coach from 2017-23. Before that, he was the inaugural head coach at Davenport University, helping launch the NAIA program and guiding the Panthers to a 6-5 record in their first season.
At Michigan, Esposito worked closely with standout defensive lineman Mason Graham, who went on to become a first-round NFL draft pick by the Cleveland Browns. His work in Ann Arbor quickly elevated his profile as an NFL candidate.
Esposito’s expected departure follows another Michigan assistant making the leap to the league. Former Wolverines offensive line coach Grant Newsome recently accepted a job with the New York Giants as an assistant offensive line coach.

The two exits come after vastly different tenures. Esposito spent two seasons at Michigan, while Newsome was part of the program for more than a decade as both a player and coach, working under Jim Harbaugh and Moore.
