Philadelphia Eagles star defensive tackle Jalen Carter was recently ranked as the third best defensive tackle in the entire NFL in an ESPN survey of executives, coaches and scouts.
But while Carter ranked highly, not everyone was impressed with his effort on a down-by-down basis.
NFL coordinator says Jalen Carter gets 'dragged' too often
One anonymous NFL coordinator questioned Carter's consistency.
"He flashes 10 times a game but gets dragged far too often by average players," the coordinator said.
The coordinator isn't the first to question Carter's consistency, but in Carter's defense he was battling injury issues throughout the 2025 season. He projects to be healthier, and hopefully more consistently engaged, in 2026.
Plus, a defensive coach pushed back a bit on the consistency concern when it comes to Carter.
"He's a problem," the defensive coach said of Carter. "A game-wrecker. You feel his presence out there consistently."
No player is perfect, and Carter certainly has areas where he can continue to improve. But, he's been a major impact player for Philly's defense over the past couple of years and he's a big part of the reason that the unit has been as good as it has been. And at 25 years old, Carter should still have a lot of good football ahead of him.
