There’s buzz about Luka Doncic eventually leaving the Los Angeles Lakers. From the Lakers' perspective, it makes no sense to let the former Dallas Mavericks star leave in free agency eventually.
Perhaps anything can happen, and the Mavericks recently proved that, but it'd be an even more questionable decision than Dallas made when they traded him.
Despite that, according to ClutchPoints’ Benedetto Vitale, a Western Conference executive stated that he believes Doncic could eventually leave for the Denver Nuggets, noting that it's possible that he could be on his third team in a few years after the Mavericks trade.

"The Lakers have to be careful,” an anonymous Western Conference executive said. “Luka just got his butt kicked by a team he handled easily last year, and now they're telling him to wait another year before he can really compete. If Denver wins it all or comes close while Rob [Pelinka] makes it clear he doesn't believe in Luka and LeBron as a combo, they could be a real threat for him this next season or two.”
From what it seems like, the Lakers are attempting to build a core around Doncic in the future.
Whether that be in a few years remains to be seen, but their lack of moves during the 2025 offseason is somewhat telling.
The Lakers have a good opportunity to build a sound core around Doncic, but it’ll likely take LeBron James to be off the roster before they do that.
Perhaps when that happens, they can demonstrate to him that they mean business and want to win at the highest level.
