The Los Angeles Angels are, once again, heading towards the MLB trade deadline as sellers. The 2026 season is no different, and selling is even more so in the cards with Mike Trout getting hurt once again.
With the Angels looking to sell, a few names are popping up in rumors this season. Trout is one name that's coming up, but he's going nowhere. Reid Detmers and Jose Soriano are two fascinating pitchers who could be moved, but neither is likely to be dealt.
But the story changes when 37-homer slugger Jo Adell comes up. He's a much more realistic trade chip this year. Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report believes this is the year to trade Adell, as the Angels can "cash in" on a seller's market that is looking for players like Adell.
Angels urged to trade Jo Adell and 'cash in' on market
"If someone wants to bet on him finding another level, the Angels would be wise to cash in on that, knowing that he hasn't done that consistently during a significant stretch of time in their organization," Kelly writes.
Adell, a first-round pick back in 2017, has been with the franchise for a long time. Last year, he had 37 homers in a breakout season, and while he has 10 homers this year and a three-home-run-robbery game, he's largely been disappointing.
As Kelly put it, "From the Angels' perspective, though, he has arguably been a bust." That's despite his .778 OPS last season and his .723 OPS and 101 OPS+ the last three years combined.
Adell has a .249 average and a .683 OPS this season, and has shown solid defense this season. He's someone who could draw a decent amount of trade interest this season.

But, most importantly, he's a highly coveted right-handed hitting outfield bat. That's something a lot of teams need this season, and a team like the Philadelphia Phillies might overpay to land Adell with the lack of good righty-hitting outfielders available for trade.
If there were ever a time for the Angels to part ways with Adell, it would be now. The trade market for players like Adell is hot, and the Angels should be able to land a strong return for him in a deal this summer.
The Angels will have until August 3 to trade him, which is something that, as Kelly is urging, the Angels should actually do. An Adell trade makes a lot of sense and should be a priority for the Angels this season.
